This fine building needed a complete refurbishment and a three storey extension to make it suitable for the young family. The extension compliments the existing architecture, with careful consideration given to the scale, materials and detail of the house to ensure that the changes are sympathetic to the old, yet meet the clients requirements. The kitchen becomes the focus of the house by incorporating the dining area, which has been linked to the raised patio areas through double doors. The bay window detail is repeated on the floors above to create a light filed Master Bedroom suite making the most of the orientation, views and sunlight. En-suite shower rooms were added to all the bedrooms, and a complete new mechanical and electrical system was installed to cope with the additional servicing demands. The project was completed in 2013, and has led to several referrals in the area.
The dark dining room and outdated kitchen in this detached Victorian house needed attention. An existing utility room and cloakroom blocked access and light, so were relocated. Floor levels were adjusted, a new extension with rooflight constructed to form a bright, light-filled kitchen and dining area, linked to a paved patio with tall folding-/sliding doors. Completed 2017
This unsympathetically converted stable block is set in beautiful countryside surrounded by interesting historic buildings. A series of poorly lit, interlinked rooms on various levels and an unsatisfactory access provided a complex puzzle to resolve. The first step was to remove the leaking + ugly conservatory, followed by the radical proposal to cut a vertical slice through the elevation to provide a central access, new staircase, hall + landings + a flood of natural light into the house. The kitchen and dining rooms were combined, floor + ceiling levels resolved. A new mechanical and electrical installation with fully insulated envelope ensure that the refurbished house is now fit for modern family living for many years to come.
The young family wanted to remove the clutter of ground floor rooms, and make the most of the courtyard garden of this house in the Tunbridge Wells Conservation Area. The solution was to infill the side of the rear plan, remove the internal walls between the dining room, kitchen, cloak and utility rooms to create a open plan family room connected to the patio garden through sliding/folding patio doors. The cloakroom has been tucked under the staircase. The rear elevation was opened up with sliding patio doors. Structural glass in the roof and walls, combined with a timber-lined oriel window flood the room with light. The patio has been detailed to use the same floor finish and is almost flush with the iterior, so that it is a continuation of the room- perfect for the young children to play. A dormer extension on the second floor has transformed a small bathroom into a light-filled modern shower room. The design was developed closely with the client through drawings, sketches and computer models, as well as consulting with the Planning Authority from an early stage to ensure that the design intent was followed through.

We were invited to rationalise a design prepared by others. We took the opportunity to reconfigure the plans to remove wasted circulation space, simplify the structure, and make better use of the views and sunlight. A defective conservatory was removed, as well as the roofs over single storey extensions. The existing extensions were retained, with a first floor added. The kitchen has been relocated to the south, where access to the new verandah opens up fantastic views and options for entertaining, with an adjacent utility boot room. The extra first floor area has been used to provide a generous master bedroom suite, with a vaulted bedroom ceiling, dressing room with views into the landscape and a new family bathroom. Completed 2017
This fine Grade 2 listed house had been badly reconfigured when a large Victorian extension was removed. Our brief was to repair the principle elevation, make use of the 2nd floor area created by the repair to insert two bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms and dressing rooms. The front door was moved back to the front of the house, and a decorative porch added. Completed 2017
We are architects and designers with an in-depth understanding of the design, regulatory and construction process. From initial client briefing to project completion, careful attention to detail, excellent communication and skills honed over 25 years ensure that buildings and interiors fulfill their objectives.
