School House London
This family home in North London needed a complete remodelling to serve better the needs of the family. The front entrance was re-positioned so to provide better connection to the main spaces of the house. The front facade was remodelled to include larger windows. The lower-ground floor was rebuilt in its entirety, including the demolition of two existing extensions, in order to restore its consistency with the historic fabric of the building and also to improve the arrangement of the sleeping areas. Internally, the home was completely refurbished and rearranged. It received a new stair, glazing, flooring, kitchen, joinery and bathrooms, as well as new electrical wiring and lighting scheme. The terrace off the living room was also rebuilt and now it benefits from a spiral staircase which connects it to the garden.
London Fields Home
The extension and refurbishment of this house in Hackney were carefully planned around the opening up of the rear of the ground floor of the property, the landscaping and the creation of three bedrooms, and two bathrooms. It was designed to be contemporary, but at the same time, maintaining the integrity of its Victorian architecture. We gained planning permission for large roof lights, expansive glass doors at the rear and a wonderful oriel glass window, which provides a cosy place to sit in the kitchen, and at the same time, projects itself into the garden space. The use of interesting finishes and colour palates, some bold and some subtle, create much interest, and interplays with our clients own personal style. The interior architecture and decoration together make this one of our favourite design projects, unique and at the same time very homely.
Reinventing the Railway Cottage
Old, tired and dilapidated, this classic two-up two-down period terrace was transformed and extended into a contemporary, light-filled living space. The ambition of the project was to transform a house that was a collection of small rooms and corridors with low ceilings into a free-flowing, naturally-lit space that efficiently served the requirements of the owner. To this end, the roof was taken off and replaced with a highly efficient mono-pitch structure, offering a dramatic, three-metre high, vaulted ceiling that gives the master bedroom a sense of increased light and volume. The whole of the ground floor was remodelled into one open-plan living space, from front door to rear garden. The stair was shifted transversely to form a strong architectural feature, with a roof light above bringing light into the middle of the living area. The property was extended by nearly 50% at the rear, with a two-storey partial-width and fully glazed infill extension. The latter was simply formed by using two panels of double glazing, one for the roof and one for the rear wall.
Modern Eclectic Family Home
Clifton Interiors worked in partnership with Nicholas Lee Architects, tasked with creating a family home that was both elegant and comfortable. The Kitchen, originally located in what was the dark and gloomy basement, is transformed in to a light flooded space. Exposed brick and a cantilevered steel staircase give this stunning contemporary Kitchen an urban feel. Double height glazing offers a view to the garden and the sky when descending into the space. The concrete floor further celebrates the materials used, whilst eclectic furniture adds personality creating a homely feel. This modern eclecticism is continued throughout the rest of the property where the client’s own beautiful mid-century and vintage pieces fit perfectly with the carefully selected contemporary items. A cinema room (with AV supplied by Modus Vivendi) as well as the top floor games room, complete with bespoke neon sign, create environments for relaxation and fun. As well as creating rooms for time spent together, it was important to create personalised areas for each member of the family. All bedrooms have individuality, with en-suites and each have a unique style.

Peasburge Barn
Since extension of this historic agricultural property in the Cotswolds was prohibited at ground level, the solution lay beneath. A 280 square metre below-ground extension was designed, in part under the existing barn and extending out into the landscape. The new lower-ground floor looks out onto a sunken courtyard garden and accommodates two bedroom suites, a gym, a sauna and a playroom. The existing barn underwent a complete interior design renovation, which included installing a bespoke kitchen, a two-storey master bedroom suite, state-of-the-art management systems and energy-efficient lighting.
A Touch of Zen in Primrose Hill
Our client approached us to refurbish and remodel her home which she felt it was in need of some TLC and an injection of brightness and light. We wanted to capitalise on the advantages of the existing open plan living room-kitchen area, beautiful sky lights and a view to die for from her bedroom over the London roof tops of Primrose Hill.
The palette was intended to create a neutral back drop, with the introduction of blues and pinks to highlight the abstract art commissioned for the project. The materials selected were of organic texture, and in easy to live with colours.
The wooden floors were lightened throughout, the existing kitchen painted and refurbished and a simple handrail added to the stairs where just a few of the seemingly subtle design elements that really served to transformed the space.
It was a pleasure to create a special space for our client to practice yoga and meditation. We commissioned a special semi sheer and flowing, fabric painting to separate this sacred space from the office, and thus creating a truly adaptable area.
The end result is a calm, zen interior with a nod to the Scandinavian aesthetic.
Townhouse in Marylebone
Revisiting a project is always fun, when our client purchased this property many years ago we undertook a limited interior refurbishment, knowing that one day we would return to give it a true wow factor. And this we did with the assistance of David Money architects, we turned wood into stone and origami styled panels added beautiful furniture a dash of glamour with a pale gold kitchen and extraordinary lighting, and hey presto the town house was transformed.
Hampstead Home
This contemporary, newly built five bedroom house in Hampstead comprising 9,000 sq. ft. arranged over five floors, was designed in conjunction with Studio MR Architects for a North London developer. The bold use of colour accents the impressive architecture, and a palette of unique finishes adds a luxurious and time enduring quality to the interior design. The kitchen, designed in conjunction with Roundhouse Kitchens, displays a palette of metal, lacquer and wood that compliments the interior. It sits in a basement that cleverly benefits from huge sliding doors opening up onto a courtyard garden, allowing it to become one of the many light-filled areas in this property. The second basement has a spa, gymnasium, swimming pool and cinema. The double height windows connect dramatic reception rooms, the basement and living spaces.
