Genesis Birmingham
This was the fourth of the Radiotherapy Centres we built for Cancer Partners UK (now Genesis) at Spire Hospital, Little Aston. The site is within the former grounds of Little Aston Hall, a Grade II listed building and also in the designated Green Belt. Our solution was to conceal the new building within a landscaped mound which also provided improved screening to the existing building from nearby flats
The design includes different types of “Green Roof” and Corten steel sheet facing to the flanking retaining walls. Work on the £2.24 million project started on site in May 2010 and was complete in February 2011
House Refurbishment, Kew
This major refurbishment of a highly impressive and imposing double fronted detached period villa was completed in 2015. The building is locally listed and situated in the Kew Gardens World Heritage Site and Kew Green Conservation Areas
Conversion from a house in multiple occupation to a single family house was initially resisted by the Local Planning Authority on account of a policy designed to prevent the loss of housing units but common sense prevailed in the end!
The work included construction of a large split level glazed extension at the rear.
Low Energy House in the Cotswolds
Completed in 2012 this contemporary house features steeply pitched gabled roofs at each end and is a modern interpretation of the cotswolds vernacular. The Client wanted rooms which could connect to the garden and lend themselves to family visits, taking advantage of the spectacular view across the Slad valley. The flank walls to the terrace create the appearance of a plinth growing out of ground rather than a balcony
The building is ecologically sound but not overtly ‘eco’ in appearance. It is well insulated and incorporates sustainable features including rainwater harvesting and an air source heat pump. A large roof overhang and the projecting terrace provide solar shading to the south facing glazing.
Private House, Shepherds Hill, London
Discretely set back from the road this new build house opens up to a large open plan interior over 3 floors overlooking the large south facing rear garden. The entrance hall features a cantilevered stair, a ribbon of glass extending through the full height of the building and a large roof window enhance the open feel
The compact site presented construction challenges including the construction of a contiguous pile retaining structure to the basement.
The London Gamma Knife
This installation at Wellington Hospital, London was carried out in 2018 including the construction of a small extension on a very restricted site
The gamma knife is a precise and accurate way to deliver radiation to even the most complex brain tumours or abnormalities offering patients non-invasive treatment for brain conditions.
House Extensions
We have implemented many improvements and extensions to private clients’ houses. When remodelling older properties our aim is to restore as much of the original fabric as possible but look to create exciting contemporary spaces with good natural light, often from above, in the extended or altered parts
In all our work we particularly like to link the internal and external spaces with the use of common materials, large doors and views through the circulation spaces.
