Manor House Kitchen Refurbishment
Opening up the Victorian kitchen wing of a Grade II* Listed historic manor house created a kitchen that would cater for every need.
The east wing, constructed in the late 1800s by the wealthy Victorian owner contained the modern kitchen, pantry, larder and utility room. Years of ill-conceived minor modifications had eliminated much of the original building fabric and had resulted in a set of disjointed spaces connected by an imposing dark corridor. Removing the corridor wall, in addition to bringing in much needed light to the enlarged spaces, opened up longlost views to the mill ponds in front of the house.

Modern living meets country cottage
By relocating but retaining the larder facility, airing cupboard and tank rooms, and removing a portion of the original external wall that split the old extension from the cottage, the kitchen was allowed to flow into a new breakfast room and family lounge creating an airy, bright space to house family life. A bespoke hidden sliding wall system allowed the breakfast room and family lounge to be divided easily on an ad-hoc basis.
Dwell sourced materials including a fantastic floor finish from Fired Earth, and designed and commissioned a computerised lighting system with pre-configured lighting scenes to suit a variety of activities.
