Contemporary House, Hampshire At Kebun, our clients wished to replace their poorly performing 1960’s bungalow with a new build highly sustainable and energy efficient home that would meet the needs and flexibility required for modern family living. Working with both the context of the sites topography and the listed building and historic park that the site sits between, we have been able to create a clean contemporary home that is respectful of its surroundings. The design has been integrated into the landscape and maximises views into the historic park. The form and design of the property provides a high level of private space for the family to enjoy.
New Build Georgian Villa, Hampshire This new build Georgian Villa has been designed to provide a serene home opening onto ancient woodland in the Hampshire countryside. Witcher Crawford managed to secure planning permission for their client in this Conservation Area setting where several other architects had failed. “This is an elegant composition that fully respects its particular situation, as one would expect from this practice with its pedigree. The solution makes a positive contribution to this prominent site as one travels around the sharp bend of Satchell Lane. Wessex Manor has metamorphosed into the serene swan and stands as head of this family of buildings being a credit to the conservation area.” – Conservation Officer
Arts & Craft House, Hampshire This new Arts and Crafts inspired house is a replacement dwelling located in a street of various age and styled houses on the outskirts of Winchester. When Witcher Crawford was first approached, our client wished to refurbish and extend a pre-war house on the site. Our initial feasibility exercise indicated that by taking advantage of the value added tax rules for new build projects – which are zero rated against twenty percent tax for extensions and refurbishment – it made economic sense to replace the existing house with a new design.
Remodeling, Refurbishment & Extension The examples of our remodelling, refurbishment and extension projects, shown on this page, demonstrate what good architectural design solutions can achieve with even the most neglected or unattractive structures. Enhancing your property need not be just about aesthetics or internal layout; the focus can often be on the building’s thermal performance, with the fabric upgraded and renewable energy sources employed to create significant environmental improvements.
Arts & Crafts Architecture Witcher Crawford has a natural affinity to the Arts & Crafts as the practice share many of principles synonymous with the movement. Particular attention to detail and material selection are an important part of the company’s design approach. These principles are applied to all of the projects we design regardless of architectural style. The Arts & Crafts movement was a reaction against the soullessness of the Industrial Revolution and mass production. It turned in favour to local craftsmen, traditional details and vernacular material use. The Arts & Crafts philosophy, regardless of style, is perfect for modern or traditional family living, with the way we want to interact with rooms and spaces influencing the external form of the building – as opposed to the ridged form of, say, a Classical house forcing the internal layout to suit the rigid exterior language.
Listed And History Buildings Witcher Crawford has extensive experience providing conservation and development advice for owners of listed buildings. We have staff with specialist historic building expertise who can assist owners of historic properties in understanding the important aspects of their buildings. This helps our clients to make informed decisions and develop design solutions that are much more likely to be viewed favourably by Conservation Officers. Our knowledge also helps us in detailed negotiations with conservation bodies during the planning and construction process.
Details & Interiors Witcher Crawford like to apply an integrated design philosophy and where feasible, we like to oversee every aspect of the project. We often design fittings and furniture, including staircases, fitted wardrobes, vanity units and other detailed cabinetry. We have designed ironmongery for several projects and frequently design kitchens. We plan bathroom layouts, select fittings and finishes and provide lighting layouts.
Witcher Crawford is an RIBA Chartered Practice with a strong reputation for producing high quality, aesthetically pleasing and beautifully engineered buildings. We ensure our clients get the very best from their ideas, aspirations and budgets.
Our services span from concept design, working drawings and contract administration through to a bespoke interior design service. Please see our services page for an understanding of the process followed to realise your project.

Undertaking a ‘grand design’ can be a daunting task. Our down to earth, knowledgeable staff will guide you through the process, tailoring our approach to best suit your needs. We are not bound to a particular architectural style, freeing us to interpret our clients’ wishes imaginatively based on their tastes and influences. We offer help and guidance to provide a property our clients will enjoy for years.
We consider client interaction as a key component to success. Whether dealing with people with a strong design sense or with others who require more assistance to recognise their vision, we will use our expertise to draw from the client the project that ultimately meets their needs. This approach has lead to the vast majority of our commissions coming from client referral.
Over the years we have built up a successful working relationship with local authorities and are attuned to their requirements, making the planning and construction processes as smooth as possible for our clients. Design is just the start; Witcher Crawford Architects are invested in maintaining quality through the building process form the start, through to the very end.
‘We are not bound to a particular style and embrace a wide range of architectural influences. The common thread in each of our projects is considered design and careful attention to detail’.
